As requested Freddie.

I can usually deal with the most arrogant show offs. The ones I dislike are the ones who just refuse to speak. This is particularly painful if you are doing 1-1.

The ones I hate most are the ones who try to catch you out.

Oh God I miss teaching girls. What a perk to have gorgeous girls in your class especially when they look up to you and think you are a really good teacher. Little do they know that you trot out the same crappy lesson week in week out.

On my list would be the argumentive professionals. Doctors can be sometimes be the worst. In one of my Toefl classes, a right b-tch of a middle-aged female student suddenly started "tsk, tsk-ing" and told me I was very very wrong. (Quite possibly, especially in spelling.)

However. when I asked her why she thought so, it was apparent she had scrambled her rules somewhere along the line. I gracefully told her to bring in her reference and I would be glad to look it over, but, for the moment, she would have to take my word for it. That was not enough for her and she proceeded to try to correct every point I made. Later, I learned she had done the same sort of thing in every class she had been in.

The pampered rich girl is another I 'cherish'. "Offf ya, I am boring!" This is the type that can fawn over the male teachers one minute and bully the other students the next.

Sometimes, though rarely, I find that it is possible to like the student outside of the class and desperately want to seize him by the throat while teaching.

On the point of students that reek. One time in my first school, there was a heated discussion between two teachers about a female student. It was during the warm late spring and the teachers were in the habit of opening the doors to the classrooms to create a breeze. Apparently one female student was so evil-smelling that students across the hall could catch the odor. The teacher of that class was insisting that the teacher of the said student discuss the problem with her. Like what?
"Ayse, you stink."
or....
"Ayse, do you know the difference between soap and soup? Show me tomorrow."
"Ayse, what is that cologne you are wearing? Roadkill?"

In language schools here, how many of the students are really here to meet potential boyfriends/girlfriends?

In the first language school I ever taught in Antalya. My class consisted of nine 20- 40 year old men. When asked the question " why do you want to learn English" ? . To a man they all agreed the main objective was to chat to Yabanci woman on the beach or second best through the internet!

A is for arse B is for balls and C is for .........well i felt a right one!

The students that really get my gander up are the middle aged "know it all" men who think they are being funny!

One conversational class I ran had about 10 students all in a horse shoe formation and directly in front of me was a bald headed suited git. Oh he thought he was so so funny.

One day he decided in his limited brain resources that he would only answer every question with "butcher"!

Where is your home? ......."Butcher"
Where is your wife now?...."Butcher"
Where is your office?........."Butcher"

On the next round of questions i waited until the word was forming in his mouth and asked.

What did Atatrk do to people?

The answer was forthcoming with a smart arse grin on his face

"BUTCHER"

It took a full two seconds while it registered with the other students what he had said. You could have heard a flea fart!. Of course I panned out the silence for maximum "disgust" affect!

After that he was treated with such disdain by the other students he left two weeks later!
