Really Saraswati?? I mean, I'd kind of guessed by the name, but anyhoo...

What style? I used to be a big Astanga girl myself until the knee operation a month ago.

Hatha and sometimes Bikram...

Astanga's tough! Sorry to hear about your knee. Swimming would be great for it...mid 2007, right?

I love to read so I spend rather large amounts of time looking for English language books. I am addicted to the Internet, of course, and read the news online, as well as staying in touch with friends. I like to walk on trails away from city traffic, which aren't always easy to find in Mexico. I like to walk the streets and find unsuspecting locals to practice Spanish with. I too have become a bit of a football fan, though hockey is still number one. It's also fun to go to the markets and just browse. There's some crazy stuff available here!

loz,
nice description! that's how i handle a big chunk of my life. i feel better now, at least i'm not alone in my unproductive productivity. if you get on amazon and search for books about your newfound hobby-to-be you can get another 2-3 weeks' mileage out of it.
it all started in college where i switch majors every semester for the first 3 years... someone should have slapped me good and hard back then.

ok, back to fomenting a revolution

MELEE, what's the Audi? I haven't been here long and haven't found all the spots yet, but this is a new one.

I'm actually leaving Morelia this weekend for a job in Cuernavaca. I like the city of Morelia but am only working 18 hours a week. I couldn't find a school to sponsor a work visa and had no luck finding a decent apartment near work. So I'm off to a school that is offering better.

Stop the running! It's the worst thing you can do to your body (knees, feet...ALL your joints) Why do you think it hurts so much afterwards?

I'm not sure whether I really love it or if its just that everyone around me loves it so I just naturally have assimilated to their loves, or whatnot. I even started playing soccer (I really suck), and while it was a great experience it was pretty embarassing at times as well.

You can never watch too much football.

And there's no such thing as soccer. Wink[/quote]

Ever seen a jogger smiling? Wink Though the Tarahumara are some of the most serene people I've ever met, and they can run for days! Might have something to do with the surface they run on?

There you go Danielita, you're saved! Now you get to do the previously unmentioned side-step of my plan (I'm thinking there might be a self-help book in this Laughing ) when you decide that your new (as yet not-begun) hobby isn't really all it was cracked up to be, and spend lots of time chatting with friends, colleagues, crazy old ladies on the bus, trying to find a new hobby that you can procrastinate about!

You could become my virtual swimming buddy if you like. I was actually going to start this week (honestly! Wink ), but had a bit of a knee setback over the weekend. How about next Tuesday we go shopping for equipment, decide its all too expensive and settle for a nice ice-cream sundae instead? Laughing

Great idea! We should start up a Dave's virtual swim team. Oops, one small snag-- I already have plans next Tuesday. I am not trying to procrastinate or anthing, but what about the next Tuesday? We can always do some online research in the meantime....

About 2 months later start to do fairly heavy "reasearch" on your new hobby. Spend weeks and months poring over magazines and websites and visiting speciality shops to find all the information possible about the specialised "equipment" you will need for your hobby.

This is also a good time to spend many hours watching people do your chosen activity. In order to help motivate yourself stunningly attractive members of the opposite sex are the best case studies... all in the name of research of course!

As for me, in my downtime I feed my internet addiction by posting on Dave's, download many movies and then watch them, kid myself that I am going to more French and Japanese study, sleep, eat and of course explore, explore, explore.

But I have to run to play football. That's why I'm running, because I want to score another goal. I scored one, everyone just sort of stopped and watched as my legs fumbled around with the ball, tried to put it in the right place, tried to kick it with some intimidating strength but ended up literally 'putting' the thing into the net. But it was the goal nonetheless and I'm very proud of that moment.

Oh I'm going to see a real football game tomorrow in Tuxtla. Jaguares vs. Atlas. It'll be my first football game ever, sitting in the sun section for about 120 pesos, real excited, being that Atlas is the best football team in Mexico.

>>Want to mention too that no one should bother seeing Nacho Libre. Saw it last weekend in Espanol and it was horrible, and I like Jack Black, I think he's pretty funny sometimes but I'd rather resurrect Chris Farley and watch one of his crappy movies instead.

Not necessarily in this order, but I usually walk two miles, read, write fiction and sit in the cafe and jawbone with friends.

TV is out of the question. Hurrrrrayyyyy. Got rid of that vice.

I average 1.25 books per week.

About 2 short stories a year.

And locute 27,645 words per year over .1 % of that number of eyeopeners.

I walk the dog....try to connect to the internet (I'm 'borrowing' free wireless from somewhere) ususally get pissed off and frustrated b/c I cannot connect and/or cannot stay connected....sometimes I watch a little bit of really blurry tv as I also don't have cable...and feel sorry, frustrated and depressed as I am now settled in both my house and my job and have too much time after work and no friends to spend it with. Sad I've finally started to study Spanish a little more regularly but get pissed off with how far behind I am and how I have no friends to practice it with (it's a horrible circle!)

Consider spanish language books. There's enough cognates that you can probably understand a lot of children's literature with a 501 verbs book and really build an amazing vocabulary in Spanish quickly if you give the literature in that language a chance. Don't listen to anyone if they tell you Borges is easy, though.
