Okay, I am sure someone is rolling their eyes (and yet you clicked this anyway) but I am a clueless newbie in this country and still boggled by the multiple modes of transit and million and one stations, depots, routes, and schedules that accompany each method of transport.
I will be heading to Yokohama for Sunday and basically want to take a train from Wakayama to Osaka, then night bus it to Tokyo, then hop a train from Tokyo to Yokohama. For some reason I am still finding it incredibly hard to get concise routes and schedules planned here in Japan.
Any help in any way is greatly appreciated but basically I just want to know how to take one of these "night buses" from Osaka to Tokyo. Where do I catch it? Where can I see a schedule? Please tell me the pick up and drop off point are connected to train lines!! |

I think you can get the bus at Namba station, and it goes to Shinjuku.
The night bus is the cheapest way to travel, but it is slower.
If you can sleep on buses, then it is ok. |

| I'm not exactly sure either, but I think you can take one some the OCAT building. I'll double check later and post in the thread. |

I did this in reverse.
I took a nightbus from Tokyo Station to OCAT in Namba. It was horrid. An 8 hour trip became 10.5 hours because of heavy Obon traffic and the seats were too small to get remotely comfortable.
Would I do it again for the �11 000 over the shinkansen? YUP! 
We bought our tickets at the bus terminal in the OCAT Building. |

You can get the nightbus from OCAT (Osaka City Air Terminal, connected to Namba station) or Osaka station in Umeda. If you're coming to Osaka by train you'll probably arrive at the latter. The nightbus terminal is signposted in English throughout the station, and you can buy tickets from an office quite close to it. I don't know about schedules, but the ticket office seems to stay open fairly late (I bought a ticket there after 10pm once) so it might be ok just going there as soon as you arrive in Osaka.
Be warned... there are two kinds of nightbus. One is a lovely spacious one, only three seats wide with an aisle between each seat, footrests, slippers and a blanket, and is used by businessmen who drink a little sake and fall asleep immediately. The other crams in about 3000 seats and is stuffed with guitar-playing students, convicts, mean old ladies and Nova teachers. |

Why not merely scam the shinkansen....
I hear you can get down to Osaka from Tokyo for 440 yen. I Know of someone who paid 800 yen for a Tokyo..Hiroshima return trip.
Way cheaper...and very simple |

Yes, cause you can compare mugging an old lady with scamming a fare on a train. |

Your aim seems to promote illegal behaviour, that could get you fined, arrested or deported if caught.
Why not make other ridiculous statements to "present newbies with all the possibilites and opportunities open to them" like:
If you need a t-shirt or a pair of jeans, go to Uniqlo and steal them.
If you want a bicycle, go to the train station, bust a lock and take one.
If you want a date, go to the bar and slip a pill in a woman's drink.
If you need a visa, go buy a fake degree.
The Jon Taylor school of thinking I guess.
