What's the going rate per hour?

Sweetsea, seems like you posted this a while ago and no reply. well, you know yourself the going rate is basically what you can get, but five years ago when I first went freelance I was advised (by a long-term and very experienced biz teacher) that 4000/hr is pretty standard for biz classes. Then I had interviews with companies who wanted to pay me three five, and I indicated that I was not happy with that. In fact the companies were willing to negotiate up, but I am now stuck with 4000/hr jobs which I am too lazy to change. I would not accept 4000/hr for new jobs now, but it depends on 　your situation. also depends a lot on travelling time. 　no point spending more time on the train than you spend teaching eh

Did I really ask that before? Don't remember and it isn't that important really. Just picked up two classes and was just wondering. Took them because they are located near my school's station.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I was offered between 3000 and 4000 yen per hour at a few places and walked away from them.

Business English classes can be charged by the course (daily, weekly, monthly, whatever) or by the number of students (those that originally sign up, or just the ones that come that day). I prefer charging a monthly flat rate. Students may not come because of their busy schedules, but it is at least an incentive. For the smaller companies, I've gone with a pay as you go deal, cash that day depending on how many show up.

Take what you get, Sweetsee, but to ask us what the going rate is after you have already taken on such classes is rather backwards. I mean, if we told you figures that are significantly higher than what you charge now, would you consider raising the fees this early?

What's the difference between business classes and regular eikwia? Do you use business texts? Do you teach job-related English? Confused

generally it's about 4000 yen an hour for weekly lessons, and more if the lessons are less frequent.

Howdy LARS,
Business classes are usually held in-house, at the clients location. The courses are for a set time-period, for example 15 weeks or 30 weeks. Currently, I am using business English material produced by my employer for one group of four students planning to work overseas. In another class, very low-level, I use that and Tech Talk by Oxford. The former group will work toward doing a presentation in English by creating and analyzing a product-flow chart.
