Hi there,
I've been offered a position in Tochigi prefecture (kanto) but know nothing about the place at all. I was wondering if anyone is there or has any experience of it? how easy is it to get to Tokyo or other urban centres from there? is there much to do there?..any info would be great.
cheers
take it easy

Why did this post change? I saw the old rendition at work. I was going to take a peak at the website given when I got home. Now I'm home. The website is gone. And the text doesn't say that it was edited. |

The website lists 2 possible schools. One school is in Imaichi. Sorry, I don't know much about that city. The other is in Kanuma. Kanuma is a small town outside of Utsunomiya. I lived in Utsunomiya for over two years. I still frequently visit there. Kanuma is a cute town. It has a great fireworks festival every summer. Overall it is not a very exciting place, but it is pretty convenient for a small town.
It takes 10 minutes to get to Utsunomiya station by train or bus. Utsunomiya is a city of about 400,000 people, so it will meet most of your consumer and social needs. Utsunomiya is also on the Tohoku Shinkansen line. If you use it you can get to Tokyo in one hour for about 4300 yen. Regular trains take about 2 hours for half the cost. Nikko is also a convenient historical destination.
I hope this helps a little bit. |

perhaps the best place in Tochigi is Nikko.
You can see monkeys there. And temples.
One book I recommend is about an American`s time at a junior high in Tochigi. It is called Learning to Bow. |
