I just foresee the cost rising even higher than it already is, and the availability of schools shrinking, since the cowboy academies relied upon for their classes will not be able to afford the higher qualified candidate. I would expect a much bigger jump in fees if you have to start paying for Dips and MEds.

I think anyone would want a highly qualified teacher, but most Spaniards aren't as serious as they could be about learning English (or any other language). I think a lot of the students just want the exposure to a native accent. And for that, I would think they would like to spend a little as possible.

The fact of the matter in English teaching is that it is a business, not education and that m' dears is the problem.

PROFIT.

Not that I am against profit.

The thing is, English teachers are lining the pockets of the share holders of the big international language corporations.

Until English language teaching falls under the respective country's state education controls teachers will be paid badly and given bad conditions and students will be over-charged.

When a language training business charges 40-60 euro an hour and offers the teacher 12 or 13, and asks thje teacher to travel on top of paying the lousy wage, there are profits being made and those profits are being made off the backs of the teachers.

The only way to get decent pay and conditions - anywhere in the world it seems - is to work independently and charge what the academies charge.

It would also help if teachers did not accept the lousy conditions.
