I've been teaching English in Korea for 7 months now, getting mentally fried. Is the grass any greener in Turkey? |

I've taught in both South Korea and Turkey. I found the money much better in South Korea but I enjoy the teaching more here. Turkish adult students are up for anything. I have a good time in class. Korean "free talking" gets really old really fast.
Keep far away from Turkish children. Korean children are much easier to teach.
The food here is FANTASTIC compared to Korean food.
There are, however, many more job opportunities in Korea. |

Are you serious?! These kids are horrible! At least at my hagwon. I want to work with adults, but where I live there aren't any institutes just for adults; if you want to work with adults you have to do a nasty split shift- early mornings with kindergartners, then a long break and a late evening class.
I know I can't make as much money in Turkey as I can here, but I feel like my sanity is worth more than my debts. |

Well, anyway, I found Korean children easier than Turkish kids. Everyone's experiences can be different, eh?
There can be split shifts here, too. BUT, Turkish adults will jump, act, and run in the lessons. They are a real hoot! They aren't shy like Koreans. I enjoy teaching Turkish adults. And there are NO 6.30 or 7.00 am classes, thank gawd!
Night life is better here. And you won't stick out like a sore thumb. Turks come all shapes and sizes. You won't be the obvious "migook" on the bus. I found standing out really difficult. It is nice to blend in the crowd here. |
