(violin music in the background) spare me. do you live in japan? you know the average japanese sarary-man is AT work for 10-12 hours. He doesn't WORK nearly for that long. Jeezus, if they were actually working hard and efficiently, they could probably go home at 5 or 6pm. but nope, most of them (not all of them) are staring blankly at computer screens until their boss decides he's ready to go home. Their image conscious obsession of working hard is only the next step to their obsession of looking pretty. |

I tend to ignore older people here as much as possible. I will stand up and offer my seat to an older person if they need it but I get annoyed by some of the not so older people (around 50, smelling like week old cigarettes) who insist on squeezing into the 5cm gap beside you on the train seat and then persist to stare at you out of the corner of your eye. I had a moment this morning when I was heading for a vacant seat on the train when one poped out of nowhere and literally dived for the seat in front of me. This didn't bother me that much because there was a spare space beside him but he put his bag there to save the space for his friend who was coming up behind him.
I try to get along with everyone I meet here but I find it hard to be charitable to some older people here because they are, plainly speaking, self-centred and oblivious to other people around them. Whether this is a product of Japanese culture or not (I haven't been here long enough to determine what turns on the 'arsehole' gene) it's just another thing you have to get used to and/or ignore. |
