I'll let you in on this before the flamers turn up.
If you look above your original post you should see an icon with the word search beside it.
Click this and then type "AEON" as a keyword. Then select Japan Forums only and press "Search". There has been a lot written about AEON.
If you would like to refine it to "interviews" or "model lesson" then types into the search engine and specify "all items".
There has been a lot written about AEON on this forum and if you read a little first you may have some specific questions that you wish to ask later.
Good luck. |

AEON is an alright company to work for. I've certainly heard worse stories, but it really depends on where you end up. AEON teachers tend to have a lot more responsibilities outside of the classroom, including copious amounts of counselling where you have to talk to your students about renewing contracts and during certain parts of the year, selling extra materials. I personally have felt that AEON teachers are expected to participate in the business side of the company far too much. Sometimes it doesn't feel like a teaching job. Having said that, no two schools are the same, and some schools don't trust the foreign teachers to do any of that stuff. It will also depend on the previous teachers who were at your school. The one before me must have been incompetent and was terrible at planning lessons, so I spend a lot of my break time doing that, but some schools have everything set, and you just pull it out of a binder, look it over and teach it.
From other teachers I've met, I would look into ECC or JET before AEON. AEON is also dealing with the same problem NOVA had a little while back about national health insurance, and I think they will be changing the work hours to 36/week without increasing the pay.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other specific questions. |

i live in halifax Nova scotia
I can't afford to fly to Toronto to get an interview with Aeon.
The only good thing about Nova is the fact that they come to my city and interview here which saves on my expenses.
Does anybody know if I'm required to fly to Toronto for a face to face interview otherwise I'd be wasting time applying because im not spending any more money. i need as much as I can for when i get to Japan. |

Aeon
good point: Apt subsidised
bad point: Apt subsidised
I interviewed with both Nova and Aeon. The Nova clincher for me was that I could live with my boyfriend that I was going with and that Nova allowed me to choose my vacation days and do shift swaps to give myself more vacation time. Aeon has more vacation days on paper, but they are all on public holidays, which makes travelling within Japan (or anywhere else for that matter). Other than that, I think both are pretty much the same, except Nova has a bigger English bubble because there are more teachers. I also think Aeon has their teachers do sales (like going out on the st. and trying to get people to sign sales). I didn't really like the idea of this. (although with Nova I did go give out tissues on free lessons a few times so I wouldn't have to stamp). The Aeon interview was much more in depth and a lot less teachers were picked from my group. I made the cut, but many did not. Both sides have their good and bad points. |

I looked at their main website and it clearly states that you have to visit on of the major head office locations for recruiting ....Unless they didn't update their website ? |

I'd drop them an email if you are interested, they used to come to Halifax at least once a year, unless that has changed. |

Osaka and Kobe are in AEON West, I spent two years working at AEON Himeji, which is right next to Kobe.
If you are going to work for AEON, work in western Japan. I've heard that AEON East is quite a bit worse. I didn't really have many complaints about my experience there. There was a bit of sales work, but really this only happened twice a year during self study campaigns, which were a pain in the ass but bearable. The subsidized apartments were a major plus because they were quite cheap, 39,000 per month when I worked there (probably a bit more now). |
