I made this for Sgt. Killjoy, thought it might be helpful.


3.2 soles is one dollar

1 kilo of chicken (leg/thigh combo) 4.5 soles
1 kilo of ground beef 10 soles
1 kilo of oranges 2.5 soles
1 kilo of tomatoes 3 soles
1 kilo of potatoes 80 cents
1 kilo of medium grade rice 3 soles
1 standard loaf of bread 3 soles
1 liter of milk 3.5 soles
250 grams of cheese(cheapest variety) 1.20 soles
2 liter bottle of coca cola 4.5 soles
1 movie ticket for a recent release movie 6 soles
1 typical meal in a middle class restaurant 30 soles
1 Large Pepperoni Pizza at Pizza Hut or similiar Western chain. They don't have it. A peronal pizza 15 soles
1 New Recent Release DVD (at the most typical place to buy). Burned DVDs are 3 for 11 soles
1 liter of diesel 8 soles
1 ride on a typical local public transit system 1.2 soles
1 kwh of electricity 50 cents
1 month rent for a typical studio/bedsit type of apartment $150 dollars
1 pack of Marlboro Red's 4 cigarettes for 1 sol
1 can of a typical local brand of beer at a store 3 soles

Very interesting list, and I can�t make any complaints except that some of those prices are even lower in the provinces like here in Trujillo. All depends on what you are looking for, but if you like chicken, a meal at a good resteraunt with a salad and beverage will run you about 10 soles.

Also being a bit of caffeine addict, I can mention that Pepsi is considerably cheaper than Coca Cola. A three liter(not the US 2 liter) can be found for around 3.2 soles or 1$.

However, if you want to buy electronics like TVs, etc...get ready to pay premium prices for brands that would be considered bottom rung in the states......

If I must say, prices are lower than I thought there (xcept electronics)

Seems like myextended stay will be very, very enjoyable!
