Hardly. I currently work there, but Berlitz only represents about 10-15% of my income currently. Ask any of the other language teachers you know, we have ex-ECC, Geos, Nova, Shane, Aeon employees, and they all say that working at Berlitz is better pay-wise. I know of course there are exceptions depending on your individual manger and the branch you work at, but I've been there over 7 years, so I've talked to many people (we also get a fair share of visiting teachers, so it's not just teachers at my branch that I speak to).
I much prefer my uni jobs, I'm just saying generally speaking, working at Berlitz is better than the other places except for the unpaid training issue and sometimes scheduling (more fixed if you are contract, which I am not, but my hours of availability are fixed for the two nights I work there). But considering you'll make more money in the long run if you stay long enough, that is a small price to pay for unpaid training.
So tell me Canuck, how long have you worked at a language school? And how many teachers have you met that left Berlitz to work at Nova, Geos, Aeon, Shane, etc? I haven't met any as yet. |
