I know the public schools (are supposed to) get today and tomorrow off... what about those of you working in private language centers? Are Mexican companies good about observing holidays? I know they make my girlfriend work Monday through Saturday, so I'm wondering what other privately held companies do. |

Day off for many, as far as I can see. My company classes were all canceled, leaving me free to sit on Dave's all day. Tea, anyone? |

We are working at the Tec de Monterrey. They never give us any day that isn't obligatory. We haven't had a day off since May 1st.
Everyone else is off around here, the state university, schools and the majority of businesses and factories. Even buses are hard to come by. It made for a quiet drive to work. |

I was out with friends last night, and all of them had the day off. Im a Tec teacher too, just the slightest bit bitter about being at work at 7am. |

Training day for the teachers. No students.I would do training on Christmas as well if I could get away with it.Navidad is a terribly wasteful use of time.I work in my office every holiday but New Years.Been doing that for 13 years.Sometimes it's better to be an athiest.Definately cheaper! |

Got that right.I do not budget one peso for Christmas decor. If the ladies in the office want to decorate it is out of thier pockets. And when we close for the holiday all "Christmas crap" must be out of the school or it goes in the trash can.I changed my office door locks last year to keep any rogue decoraters from trying to put anything in the office.I give a year end bonus and if they want to have a fiesta that is thier business.I don't attend.Otherwise I am real fun.Took 10 teachers to a strip club downtown once and many are still talking about it over 6 months later. |

I'm gonna send you one Thelmadatter for your next strip club outing. In exchange, I'd like you to come down and talk some sense into my wife. She's been pining to put up Christmas decorations since mid-August. |

You are probably hurting your business by not taking advantage of the Christmas spirit. I find that an investment of 300 to 500 pesos in decorations pays us back in higher reenrollments (if the decorations bring back one student, they are more than paid for) and better overall morale.
Just the other day, you were agreeing that one should not take their personal views into class. I feel you might be doing the same with your business. |

I believe he said that if someone else wants to decorate, they're more than welcome to. That he simply doesn't allocate budget money for Christmas decorations isn't really *pushing* beliefs on anyone. It's probably just perceived as being codo.
I myself am a fan of x-mas. This year, I am asking for student loan payments and other cash prizes, so I can have some money in the bank for a move to Mexico. This business-casual-corporate-crap-in-California has taken only a year to really beat me down. Thought I'd pay off half my student loans. HA!
Sidenote: that Corona commercial (okay all of them) with the guy whistling "oh christmas tree" and the lit-up palm tree breaks my heart every winter. I don't think I'm asking too much... a house, my girl, good times. |

We had to work last Saturday (usually no classes then) in exchange for a puente Friday for a 4-day weekend. Several of us from the school are going up to San Jose del Pacifico for a couple of nights. |
