When you say 10-12 year-olds Pollux, how old would that be here in Japan?

And yet again, the classic insult that makes no sense to the conversation. Rolling Eyes

Looks like you're the one passing bad gas/posts...as usual.

While I'm glad to see that you have started to ramble and insult in the outpost call, "General Discussion" and not in the Japan forum, please STOP sidetracking interesting discussions. When you post ridiculous things, people will point it out. Let it be, instead of firing insults. Rolling Eyes GROW UP!

Did anyone ask the special Olympian anything? Not hard to figure out what a farce the whole thing is when someone like you becomes the voice of reason.

Illiterate nit. Why don't you take it up with Ali? I had a reasonable question comparing the maturity level of children from different countries.

Oh, it was a question about the maturity level. You should have said. I think it is very risky to patronize older students by saying "I have arranged to have a pen-pal relationship with some 10-12 year-olds in another country. They're about the same mental age as you."

But the idea of sending packages to schools in another country is a good one I think. It makes the idea of studying English - or any foreign language - far more tangible and interesting than dry academic textbooks.

I agree Ali and I apologize for my transgressions. Indeed, I would love for my students to receive a package from Poland. Is that possible? Surely my students would reciprocate.

I"m not sure that I would tell a 15 year old that a 10 year old in another country is "mentally" the same age as them. That might be insulting. I would just say "A class from poland is sending a package to us about their country, and we are sending them one." No need to mention ages.

Of course not, don't think anyone would ever do such a thing. Simply a case of Ali taking yet another shot at me.

Ill have a class of really really bright high school students (~16-17) starting in January. An exchange with just about any country or countries would be cool.

I can relate, I wouldn't tell them to their faces, but as to whether it is true or not, it depends on the culture. Kids/adults in Japan are not very independent, with some single 40 year olds still having Mom cook and do the laundry. I know Italy is similar, though I think the types of topics that 18-22 year olds relate to in countries outside of Japan is generally a bit more mature for that age. Hey, sounds like another thread idea Wink .

If anyone here is serious about extending this out to the wider world, the idea is getting press and gathering steam.

I am new to this board.

I created a website originally for my school library in New York. I am always trying to improve the content on this site.

If you have any good ESL/EFL links that I don't already have I would appreciate your letting me know.

My ESL page can be found at:
