Oh, yeah, things are lurching forward. Have you noticed those huge signboards on the corners of some of the streets on the route out to the stadium? It's like they're trying real hard to hide The Real Doha from prying eyes...

The last interesting rumor I heard was that Qatar had run out of asphalt. As rumors go, that's a good one.

The new, uncompleted airport has a special completed section set off from the rest for people the government wants to impress. Presumably, they will be easily impressed.

Getting a cab FROM the airport is now as much of a joy as getting a cab TO the airport. This can only get more entertaining.

How long will the games last? I think I would either leave the country or stock up with foodstuffs and lock myself in the flat with the net and a stack of good books until it was over. Cool

Oh yeah... work... I remember that... vaguely...

I understand that some places are closing up shop for the duration... rather a common sense idea.

Now, now. Keep in mind that this is all for the greater glory of the Al-Thani. After this is over, they'll be fondly remembered for -- oh, several weeks, at least.

Moon palace is a Korean run restaurant (on Mergab street) which has both Japanese & Korean food on the menu. It's very popular and you can get sashimi (which is excellent) and sushi cheaper than in the hotels. Right now it's full of the Korean and Japanese teams- which means no tables or having to wait longer for us regular folk ......

Thanks Qatarchic.

For my next holiday(read honeymoon) I'm thinking of returning to Doha. I still have lots of friends in Doha. My Mrs-to-be isn't convinced it is a good holiday desination.

Why should I come to Qatar for a holiday?
Discuss.

They recently fixed up parts of the old souk so they could shoot a TV commercial there. That's kind of nice. But hardly worth a trip to Doha.

You might want to take a ride down to the labor camps in the Industrial District to see some of the worst living conditions in the Middle East. There you might meet some of the workers who built the roads and buildings for the Asian Games, sleeping twelve or more to a room without air conditioning.

Qatar as a honeymoon destination? Laughing That gave me a lot of laughs this morning!

I would say take her elsewhere like Oman- far more scenic and interesting....

BD Which commercial was that? Confused

First off, who goes somewhere on a honeymoon where they have friends? Laughing You should be busy doing other things.

you are absolutely correct Gordon. It wasn't one of my better suggestions and the idea has been shot down.
