Sorry again guys, I just wanted to know, I plan on working in TPE and dont want to share a flat, so I am guessing that contract A HLS only is not going to make me enough NT$ in order to do this, so I am looking at contracts B or C,
B = f/t HLS and p/t kindy
C = f/t kindy and p/t hls
DOES ANYONE KNOW IN TAIPEI WHICH CONTRACT IS EASIER TO OBTAIN?
thanks |

| I was told by the very unhelpful lady doing recruitment for HESS that kindy positions are available ONLY for qualified teachers or teachers already at HESS and extending their contracts. The story I get from HESS teachers is somewhat different. Just be prepared to be offered something different to what you initially desire. You may have to do some compromising. |

You don't have to worry about the apartment thing, I know lots of teachers on contract A, including myself, who live alone, that's no problem.
From what I know of contract C, it is not available to new teachers. HESS will not give that position to someone with no experience.
So, in terms of contract A and contract B this is my view. On contract B you will work more hours and make more money, but you will have less free time, on contract A you will work less hours and make less money, but you will have your mornings free. It's really just a question of priorities, what do you want more, money or time?
For the record, I have know quite a few teachers, especially new teachers, who have started to burn out from the hours on contract B. Although, on the other hand, I have also known quite a few teachers on contract A, once again myself included, who aren't making a heck of a lot of money. Once again, long story short, it's time or money.
I would say that contract A HLS is easier to obtain.
Good Luck,

Just to be different to everyone else...
It is possible to get a C contract now, with no experience. They offered me one, and I have no experience whatsoever (except for a crappy online TEFL course with an extra module in teaching kiddies, but it's not exactly a qualification!).
I don't know if this is a common thing though -I presume that somone must have left abruptly for me to be offered it. Also, it's in Taoyuan, not Taipei. The three people that I've spoken to who are starting the training on Monday as well were all offered contract A only.
But on another note, this is my first post in Taiwan, huzzah! |

Nope, I have a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry. My "qualfications" to teach extend to a 60 hour TEFL cert from i-to-i (that was all done online, so not even any teaching practice) with an extra 5 hour module on teaching young 'uns. Basically just how to teach phonics, but that's fairly obvious anyway!
I did make a particular point of asking for a contract that included some kindy hours, preferably outside Taipei. |
