Roger, while I can understand your frustration, please do not lump all Asian students together because of your bad experiences in China. I have great students here in Japan. They are very smart and well-educated and I admire their proficiency in English. I don't think Lynn's student should be written off as a lost cause--though I am surprised about the Starbucks ignorance--considering that they are all over the place here in Tokyo. |

Thanks for the story Rodger. I'm not sure if it relates to this particular student, though. We just finished out first lessons, and already I can't wait until I don't have to teach her anymore. I was warned that her personalitiy was very difficult, and even she told me that I might find her difficult. I'm really not cut out for private lessons because I think it just gets too personal.
Your ideas were great Sherri. I was really looking forward to using them. However, since she is transfering to another lab next month, all her stuff including her tape recorder and TV have been shipped. |

I second that visit to Dogme,
I just got as close as yet I have to this kind of "teaching" today. One minute team teaching , next alone, on the spot.
subject open but generally clear, about "town"
A new class.
Result. What they needed, wanted and could use. All happy bunnies.
I wonder what the tutors on my DELTA would have said? No lesson Plan?
Visit the Dogme site. |
