Hello to anyone who will read this post,
Wow.....there is a whole load of information that I would love to read, but really do not have that kind of time at the moment.
I am a "newbie," and would appreciate positive, truthful, feedback to anyone who knows of jobs in the Edgewater, Hoboken, NJ area.
I am TEFL certified, and am really curious to know if you think my best bet is to start looking at a College or High school teaching job?...Do they even teach English as a Foreign Languge to students in college or High school?, or must you apply to a private school specifically and only for TEFL?
I greatly appreciate the help.
Kindly,
Bluplato |

A TESL certificate is not a qualification for teaching in an American high school or college. |

I want to thank you for your quick reply....this narrows it down for me then.
Do you happen to know if I worked in another country, I could then teach at a high school?
I appreciate it! |

Do you mean at a high school in the other country, or in the USA?
If you have a university degree and a TEFL certificate, you can easily find work in a private high school in Asia or in Latin America. Without a university degree it would be very difficult to find that type of work in most countries.
In the USA, public schools and most private schools would not hire you without higher credentials. |

If you are willing to work in an inner-city school district you can get hired with only a B.A. You must start working on your teaching certification as soon as you start the job. |

I want to thank you for all of your responses.
I hold a BA in Psychology, and I have just recently completed my TEFL course online. They do supply me with a list of jobs here (NYC) and alll over the world. I do however want to be certain that I am not missing out on a great opportunity to teach in a school or college district if I can.
I currently am looking for a job in the Edgewater, Hoboken, NJ area.
I am not looking to go abroad at the moment.
Thank you kindly for your help,

Presumably you're looking for an ESL job at a high school or college in NJ only...
I don't believe a TEFL certificate will be enough to get you in to either place, but then, I really don't know what the market's like in that part of the country.
Most likely you'll need teaching experience before you can expect to work at a university or community college. There may be a possibility of tutoring for a company like a-to-z tutoring, but I'm not sure if you want to work part-time or full-time. I'm sure you know that full-time ESL jobs in the states are pretty hard to come by! |

I am actually looking for a part time job, and I am interested in this site you pointed out. A to Z tutoring. I am going to look it up right now...
Thank you again for all the help. |
