I am an American and have never thought highly of my fellow Americans; an English friend of mine recently moved back to England after many years on the continent; he's moving back to the continent soon; I will quote him from an e-mail. He lives in London: "The English are just ignorant vermin, who deserve to be wiped out!" I have always seen a lot of similarities between the English and the Americans; some of these posts here reinforce my distaste for all things Anglo-Saxon... Confused

Do you think the views of this self-proclaimed "ignorant vermin" who wishes to be wiped out should be taken seriously?

Of course my friend was being facetious but there is an overwhelming similarity between boorish, obnoxious and ignorant English and their American counterparts. Case in point English buying property in Southern France, Spain and Portugal. Most of them cannot even hold a simple conversation with the yokals after many years. No one wants to generalise but there certainly is some truth to every generalisation...

Yes, there are plenty of ignorant English and Americans (Exhibit A: Yorkshire Ian) - only a fool would dispute that. But only a fool would suggest English and Americans have a monopoly on ignorance. I'd like to see how your friends "facetious" comments would be taken if he substituted the word "Jews" or "blacks" for "the English".

I suppose we are now bordering the fine line of ethnicity and nationality; the former being by far the more sensitive of 'beings'...

Well, some may feel sensitive about the wiping out of 50,000,000 men, women and children (some of the english babies are particularly ignorant by the way) and wouldn't consider the rather frivolous distinction of them comprising a nationality rather than an ethnicity to be mitigation enough.

By the way, would Anglo-Saxon count as an ethinicity?

My friend certainly did not really mean 'wipe out'. It would be a bad idea in any event.

The more interesting question is whether or not Anglo-Saxon is an ethnicity (especially because I studied Anglo-Saxon (Old English) culture for so long). I am certainly of the opinion that language and the contraints it places on human identity and Geist could in fact constitute a sort of ethnicity. In the days of the Angles, Saxons and Jutes (5th century CE) genetic and linguistic identity were so closely intertwined that one could answer the question with a flat 'yes'. Ultimately it is a question of the relationship of language to cultural identity and the variation of opinions on this matter will not lend themselves to a fixed answer to the question. Given my educational background and mode of thought I will say yes to Anglo-Saxon being an ethnic identity to greater and lesser degrees; ultimately it comes down to the individual person...that's my take...

Interesting conflict of opinion.

Look i'm not going to be drawn into an American v English (I'm English btw) thing because it's not for what this board is for. However, I do agree about the individual person being seen for what he is rather then tarring all with the same brush.

Clearly YI wants to get laid. Fine, eff off back to England if it is such a hellish life in Warsaw. Girls in cities are not stupid, nor are most from the villages. If they see a guy who just wants to get in their pants they back off or make him pay for it.

This 'holier then thou' and 'right to screw women' approach is a it of a joke really and I suggest YI gets treated in the same manner - as a bit of a joke.[/quote]

Im also slightly amused that YI accuses Warsaw of "lacking in cuture" and proclaims "bars and nightclubs" as as example. I'll leave my opinion of dance music out of this, but for heavans sake, Warsaw is brimming with cultural festivals, museums, galleries, displays, screenings and performances. Maybe laying off the booze and skirt-chasing for one night so as to see the city with out a hangover might lighten him up for a bit. I can only feel glad that the place is big enough for me not to have bumped into him yet.

On the first point (previous) I was not looking for aggravation, however I was stating that the people are so defensive when it comes to women

'They dislike people with natural confidence despite asking for it.' [it meaning natural confidence] Assuming all women want that trait they do not value it when it comes to chatting to them. Preferring instead to go for some AFC.

Sadly, I have not written any of Tony Blairs speeches, however I will consider this a complement as his speeches are of a very high standard.

'Try Ground Zero. Sounds right up your street.' Thanks for the tip there, I have not tried that one. I will be checking it out during my remaining time

'some of these posts here reinforce my distaste for all things Anglo-Saxon' We're not asking to be liked, just to contribute some constructive critism, to a debate, which until now (Racial Slurs, etc.) has been of a high standard.

'I'd like to see how your friends "facetious" comments would be taken if he substituted the word "Jews" or "blacks" for "the English".' Absolutly see point above. I hate the way that English people and our flag is persecuted.

' Girls in cities are not stupid, nor are most from the villages. If they see a guy who just wants to get in their pants they back off or make him pay for it. '

Like they do with Polish menfolk? I see many tryers every time I go out.......

Additionally, I have done all the cultural things and museums. I find that they are ok. Not being an art gallery person. I find the museums ae fine too.

It appears to be one rule for one and one for another. 1.1m people moved to the UK and Ireland from Poland, I can see so many instances of this.

On a final note. I can see so many examples of how people turn out if they stay here for an extened period. Not wanting to resort to the types of gutter insults we have seen in the last 48 hours I will not make any comments of the like.

I am the type of person who needs women in my life. That is my lifestyle choice. Being 24 and looking to have fun but that is the pattern I have decided.

Brash, Arrogant, Opinionated. Me, yes. I certainly don't deserve the barrage. I have recieved recently.

I hope that I have responded to this in a way that meets the rules of the board. As well as readressing some of the things said.

YI

I showed this thread to my girlfriend (she's Polish amazingly enough). She refuses to believe that Yorkshire Ian is anything other than a p*sstake.

Of course much of what we all say is based on our own personal experiences but over the years we collect and store the experiences of not only ourselves, but those of our friends and colleagues....because of this there is often truth in broad statements.
No one doubts that Polish women look good but I've never understood why many of them get their kits off so readily just because a bloke is English/American/Irish etc etc.Based on the native speakers I've met in Poland ,Polish girls can't possibly find the men attractive unless there is some kind of fetish for over-opinionated,skint,poorly presented rejects.
So,we get down to the basic motivations;money, being exotic and being better than Polish men.Maybe not better men but more likely to be faithful ,stand a round of drinks etc etc.
The other phenomenon me and my friends have noticed is that Polish women often use foreigners for their flings when they are unhappy in their present relationships or marriages.I think this is because we are a safe bet.We don't know their friends and families and we're not likely to be there forever, so we're a kind of back door.
Now ,there will be those out there who think that everything I've said is a load of tosh because I've deliberately avoided the personality issue. However, over the years I've seen hundreds of EFL relationships in which 'the other half' has been unable to communicate effectively in English hence my questionning of motivation.
As for some of the other comments people have made on this thread, I agree with some but disagree with others;having lived in Warsaw, I would agree with the fella who can't wait to get out.Krakow,Poznan,Wroclaw and the Tri-city are where it's at.I would disagree with the view that Polish people are invariably amongst the best party animals in the world. Why?The men just get messed up on voddy and get macho and the women turn into extras from 'flashdance' .I'd much rather party with the Irish,Scots,Welsh,Ozzies and South Africans anyday....at least they'll stand round after round of drinks and have a laugh.(NB**I deliberately omitted the Americans because they've been tighter than the Poles in my experience). Basically,if Poles are so great, why is it that expats tend to hang out together?
For me ,Poland is about my son, beautiful places, women and getting monumentally mashed up on 18 hour drinking benders...teaching can be done anywhere.

I must be living in a different Poland! none of them readily take their clothes off for me!
But maybe i understand why the go for english guys because Polish men are no lookers...maybe this is why so many of them are so jealous, insecure through the different leagues they are both in.
Polish girls are pretty just a bit pale and lacking in passion for my tastes

I remember a similar comment you made this past summer, in regard to Americans being stingy. That's really interesting.

I believe your initial comment was in reference to me looking for a flat mate to help defray my 2000 zl/month rent. You called me "mean" (that means "stingy" BTW), and mentioned that Americans never buy you beers.

I can't imagine why someone wouldn't want to buy you a beer amidst one of your "18 hour drinking benders."

Maybe we should start a thread about bar politics. You'd have a lot to contribute. You sound like a very interesting person. Good luck.
