Hello,
Originally, I was considering TEFL International Alexandria in Egypt, but after hearing a horror story I'm contemplating getting my certificate here in the US and getting placed in Egypt instead.
I've found two certification programs (so far) that are located reasonably close (Washington, DC): Oxford Seminars, which is a 60 hour course, and Lado, which appears to have 135 hours of teacher training. The Oxford Seminars are cheaper than TEFL International Alexandria, but the Lado is more expensive (by around $500).
Does anyone have experience with either of these two DC-based programs, or their sister schools (if such exist) elsewhere? TEFL International appears at least to have a fairly wide recognition, even if it isn't thought of anywhere near as highly as the CELTA.
Thoughts? Recommendations? |

I had a hard time finding a certificate program in DC also. the Lado program seemed so expensive and the certificate program at American was even more. Right now I'm taking the TESOL certificate class at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. I like it and it's very affordable for what you're getting. Each class is basically like a seminar on a different topic and it's taught by ESL instructors and professors from their Masters program. It does however take place over ten weeks, so if you're in a hurry, it might not be for you.
