Hi Folks:

Does anyone work (or have knowledge about) at the Yunnan College of Business Management, located in Kunming, Yunnan Province?

The package there is around RMB 4000 per month, with a fully furnished on-campus apartment, and the teaching is around 18 classes per week (each lasting 45").

The salary does not sound very high, and was wondering if anyone had any further info. about the place, and good things to say which might compensate for the salary.

Also, ghost is continuing to study Mandarin (self study after an 8 month work/study stay in Taiwan in 2005-2006) and would like to know what kind of Chinese is normally spoken in Kunming....? one assumes they speak something other than Mandarin, but would also like to know how easy it is for a foreigner to communicate in Mandarin with the locals, and whether they (the locals) are receptive to Mandarin being spoken as a means of communication.

Thanks ...

ghost

4000 RMB per month for Kunming sound more than OK.

When I was looking around last year, most jobs paid less (more around the 3000). Kunming is quite popular, so schools can get away with paying less. The weather is always nice and living there is cheap, so you should easily get around on 4000.

I am just a little jelous. Kunming is so nice.
As far as the local dialect. My husband (Chinese) got around there fine speaking Mandarian. Lots of tourists, so need to be able to speak Putonghua.
I have a friend from Yunnan and when he speaks his local dialect I have no idea what he says.
