I've read a lot about which is the best place to work when it comes to schools that conduct interviews outside of Japan, but I don't recall reading much, if anything, about which are the best schools to work at once you're there. Suppose I get myself hired by an eikaiwa from home, come there, work for a year, and decide I wanna work somewhere else. What are the better schools to work for now that I'm in Japan and have more options?

You don't hear much for a couple of reasons.

1) People don't want to give away a good thing that they may already be in.

2) People may consider one place pretty much the same as the next. (There are the bad places to avoid, however, and these are the exception, of course.)

If you have a preference for a certain location or climate, perhaps that would help to narrow down opportunities with people who are willing to divulge names of previous employers. In the same light, if you could describe what you feel you are shooting for in the way of a teaching experience (kids vs. adults classes, for example), that would help.

Well, as a newbie whose choices are limited since I'm still state-side, I assume I'm not in a position to be picky about what age-group, competencey-level, or location I work with or in. I'm sure I'll hafta take what I can get at least the first time around, and that's okay because I'm honestly not sure what age-group or competencey-level I'd prefer since I've never done this before. I DO prefer warmer climates, particularly right now since I live in the frozen North and we're just settling into full-blown blizzard season. I prefer big cities or at least a suburb near a big city.

Btw, since you mentioned it, I'd also like to know which schools I should avoid after I get there, too. Thanks for mentioning that.
