Like almost everyone else on this forum, I'm looking for a teaching job. I have a degree but not in education. I have two years experience teaching grade 2 students (english, science, math, and social studies) at an "American school" in Egypt. I moved to dubai about 10 days ago with my husband who already has a job. I know that I can't get a job in any of the top schools (or even the better ones) which is not a problem for me. The last school I worked at had all the typical problems of private international schools that are mentioned on the forum...and I survived.
The problem is I don't know where to look. I've been searching the net for ages but found nothing. If anyone could give me some pointers on how to go about looking, I would appreciate it.

There's a section on the menu called Education and Courses which lists most of the schools in Dubai and their websites or email contacts (if available). You could email your CV to those you think would suit you and see what turns up. If you're totally new to Dubai, which it seems, you will also find lots of other useful information on this site.

Why not try to do a basic teaching qualification such as the CELTA or CELTYL? It's obviously not as comprehensive as a full teaching cert but it would make it easier to find work in the long run. If you're going to make a habit of moving countries then you could do with an edge to help you find work more quickly.

The CELTA is useful, but I'm afraid it will do almost nothing to move a non-qualified candidate up the payscale at most schools, and will not likely make you a more attractive candidate to any of the decent schools. Which school, may I ask, did you work for in Cairo? I can think of a few school in Dubai that would hire you, but whether or not you'd have an enjoyable work experience is a whole other matter. As far as I know, the following schools will hire non-qualified teachers, but most expect some experience. You might want to get a letter from your school in Cairo detailing your work, giving their recommendation: The School of Research and Science, Choueifat, Dubai National Schools, Emirates International School, The Oxford School, Berlitz (language academy), The British Council (you'll need the CELTA for that, and tend to hire only Brits, I think), The Cambridge Schools, ELS Language CEntres, Emirates Aviation Services -Aviation Training Institutes...there are more but I can't recall the names. www.dubaicityguide.com lists area schools, so you might just start pounding the pavement.

The American School of Dubai and many of the decent British schools might hire you as a teaching assistant. Emirates International School hired non-qualified teachers in some instances (usually those on their husband's visas) and they tend to treat people well, though the salary isn't much to speak of.

The school I taught at is the Egyptian American School. It's in Alexandria not Cairo. They gave me a recommendation letter before I left, so I hope that helps. I'm not looking for a very high paying job. I love teaching and just want to work at a decent school. I'm already here on my husband's visa which I hope is of benefit to me.
