Perhaps this is more suited to a geeks AV forum...but Ive tried those but to no avail....Has anybody ever tried using a PAL device on a Japanese NTSC TV ??
Im a bit (understatement) of a games geek, owning about 5 consoles...all European...PAL format but "Chipped" allows playing of foreign games, etc
Rather than go throught the hideous expense of buying them all again in Japan I had them shipped over by sea mail..theyre here, got the "Henatsuki" electricity convertors for em so they power on...plugged em into my new Japanese Sony Trinitron expensive TV and BWA BWA BWA, the screen rolls...ok I expected this...mebbe a PAL to NTSC convertor is needed...bought one from LAOX in akihabara...hmmm picture but its slow and jerky...NTSC runs at 60hz...Pal at 50hz...can play Japanese/American, etc games fine...but my shipped collection of 200 odd games...half of them are PAL !!!!
Has anybody else brought games consoles/DVD's/Videos with them from abroad and find a suitable solution ?
If so would be greatly appreciative of any solutions you found !
Clutching straws but hopefully somebody out there knows....pleeeeeeeeezzz |

I can't say about games, but I watch videos from the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand here in Japan by using a multisystem video player. I have one that is a TV and video built in one that cost about 80,000 (a few years ago) and another multisystem video that works with an ordinary TV--instead of a multisystem TV --that cost a bit more. I bought them in Akihabara in Tokyo. |

As far as Im aware theres good news and bad news - a PAL device will not work on an NTSC tv - they are different systems and not compatible.
However most modern tvs will be able to switch between PAL and NTSC - its cheaper for the maker to include both systems and send their TVs where they want than to have to make them separately for differnt markets.
If your TV really doesnt convert automatically then its probably a duff converter that your using - I would check with Sony and ask them what they recommend for using a PAL device with their TV. [/code] |

So entirely off-topic that it scares me...
So I started recording the drama about Fujiko Hemming, and was actually quite enjoying it when.. the tape ran out, did anyone record it? |
