Having read this thread, I would like to know exactly what the problem is before giving specific advice. I used to work in Prague and I took my employer (Czech) to court over unpaid monies. I won. If you need the name of a good lawyer, I'd be happy to let you know the contact details for the one I used. She doesn't speak English, so you'll probably need a Czech friend to help with translation. Her fees come out of whatever you win. It did take a LONG time. Getting the cash was nice, but the principle was more important to me. |
You are all so terrific, I am so grateful and pleased. I writer in terrible haste from an Internet chafe since my laptop just crashed
The sleazy language school told me, pretty much, that I had no recourse since I was illegal. Yeah, I have all written out. The big deal company I taught for, giving more than 2/3 to the language school, got me some money for October and September. November? The company says give them until the end of the month.
I have asked them to please give me an exact date for my final payment. They have not done so. I must also have an Earnings Report for taxes and to reconcile what I earned with what they paid.
I appreciate your counsel, kind words and support so much now. You keep me going.
The lawyer will probably be necessary. I am only one person who is being abused, and the priciple is critical.
More soon. Thank you so much. |

Have you thought about contacting you embassy about this?
Failing that, you could try to embarass them in the local or national media.
This would, of course, be your last recourse, and I don't know if it would work. Anyone got any thoughts on the idea? |

Bad idea for a worker who was technically here illegally at the time to do this...potential negative backlash. |

I was fearful of my U.S. Embassy because it says clearly on my passport to find out the laws of that foreign land and obey them. But no one has the right to rob and abuse.
There are many new and powerful groups, esepfcially American-Czech organizations who are fed up now. I am finding out more, and there is legal recourse. The Austrialians are right behind us too.
More soon. You ar all the best. Really.
