Except that the OP mentioned he was mostly interested in Korea, where it really isn't as hard to get a university job as Japan. |
I realize that, but as long as he/she keeps asking me questions about Japan, do you have a problem with that? Sounds like he/she is eager to get any information possible. |

Hello, Gambate and Glenski
Just like to say two things:
1. Information is a good thing, a la Glenski, even if we are focussed on Korea, a la Gambate.
2. Glenski, Thel is testicled (neologism?). The name is indeed feminine, taken from Blake's "The Book of Thel," but I was using it to symbolize a metaphysical state rather than my gender, as is the wont of English major
In sum, Japan universities require more than I'm willing to give now (or maybe ever). The lit. side of language is more interesting to me than the strictly linguistic; and if I can land a university job in Korea on the strength of a one-year certificate that includes introductory linguistics, besides an MA Eng. lit., I think the wife and I are there.
Thank you both very much for the contributions.

I wonder how much longer this will continue to be true. After all, until the mid-90s, it was quite easy to find university positions in Japan as well. |
