A question: Do Chinese universities/colleges contain an abundance of amendities--specifically, the items I've found useful in TEFL: photocopiers and paper?

Yes. Smile

In the sticks we have copiers, but I cannot use the uni photocopier without permission (and I don't feel like fighting over this point.)

Be prepared for a hassle or two in this area, although it might all be for naught.

all the schools ive been at have photocopiers, but u have to wade, rather hack and slash through several levels of management to get permission, and a key...then u have to pay for your own paper...and then after all that, it probly doesnt work anyway. welcome to the middle kingdom of inefficiency. i dont really know why they have such a problem with it...maybe the copiers are expensive and they think we will break it if we try to look at at it...who knows

It will depend on the 'policy' of the individual institution. Here at our university the freedom to photcopy has been curtailed drastically because the foreign teachers here last year abused the system; so those of us here this year have to apply in triplicate (!!) weeks beforehand and also get permission from the Dean of English if we want any copying done. In the long run it's not worth the effort so we don't bother. Interestingly every classroom is equipped with an overhead projector and there are plenty of transparencies available..no problems there! Don't forget, there is always the 'wonderful' blackboard with disintegrating chalk at your fingertips. Smile Avoid taking dark coloured clothes as they will become covered in chalk dust Shocked

Cheers

I think they have photocopiers. What I do is ask my student to go to the copier and tell him/her how many copies I want and inform the guy there that it's for me. Students have to pay for photocopies. Teachers don't.

As for paper, I don't know if it's the same in some other provinces. It's hard to find bond paper size 8x11 in my place. Usually it's A4 and they're stationary type which you have to tear before you could use it for printing.
