Equatorial Guinea, anyone? In case you've missed it, the U of South Carolina is hiring MAs and PhDs in EFL to teach in Equatorial Guinea for $40-49K + expenses.. I would try for one of the oil companies in that place before accepting a salary of $40K, because it's a real hardship post. Malaria prevention treatments are daunting, to say the least.

When I think of the term hardship post, I think of NGOs working in their home country being asked to move to a sheet place. They can then use the hardship post excuse to get more money. On the other hand, most TEFLers are already living lives of hardship. Just ask Thrifty. I believe he has a master's degree. Most of the goldminers on this forum wouldn't mind pulling in $40,000. They should have no problem filling the positions.

Saint--what is a "sheet place"? Well, I took a long look at Equitorial Guinea and decided not to apply to an oil company that paid more than $50K. I earned that much in Abu Dhabi and also in Japan, in considerably more comfort. There's an American oil company offering a "very high salary" (though they don't state how much) in Oman and that would certainly be better than E.Q.

E.Q....well maybe it's better than Saudi, where only those who are desperate for cash go (yes, I was one of those, for a while)...or those who embrace extreme Islam.

the Wood Group is also running ads in EG, but the last time they did, nobody could get a response from them. Could EG become the next Korea of EFL?

I was one of the people who applied to Wood Group last time, and silence was the stern reply. This time, the job ad is slightly different. It's asking for CTEFLA ( Shocked ) instead of CELTA, is willing to take newly qualified candidates, the accommodation is shared (double Shocked ) and there's no mention of how fabulous the salary is. Doesn't look quite as good as it did last time somehow.

I'm not even going to bother this time, especially when it doesn't mention a medical package. Malaria and ebola? No thanks.
