|
Hi
I have a BA in Linguistics, MEd in ELT, the RSA Certificate and the Trinity TESOL Diploma. I am currently studying for a doctorate in Applied Linguistics with a top university in the field. I have 15 years of varied experience in language teaching, including management, and would like to find a university position in Hong Kong.
Once I have my doctorate in hand and a few more publications under my belt, what chance do you think I would have of landing a reasonable university job in HK? Is there anything else an employer might ask for?
I'd be really gratefeul for any advice.
Thanks

Increasingly, employers such as universities are seeking those with the above or similar qualifications plus fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin. |

Hi
Do you think I would still have any chance of getting a good job if my Mandarin were limited?
Thanks |

None of the non local lecturers I knew at HK University could speak Cantonese or Mandarin. If you check out the uni website you will also find that many prominent people at the uni do not have doctorates. Getting a job at a university in HK is relatively easy. There are English programs run by most unis that employ people with relatively meagre qualifications. One friend of mine has been teaching at a uni for a couple of years with only a first degree and a TEFL qualification. |

Are those credit classes or language institute classes? I think the OP is looking for a professional job teaching real classes. Maybe even in linguistics. |
