I received an automated email from my internet provider that asked if I want to update my credit card info, as my card expires in two weeks. What the heck? My bank never said anything. I phoned my parents and asked them if they had received any mail for me. They told me no, nothing at all.
I phoned the bank and was told that they had mailed my new card to my parents' address December 2nd, and it had been returned as undeliverable. I checked the address and it was correct. I then told them I'm teaching in Mexico until mid-July, and asked if they could courier the new credit card to me here in Huatulco. They said sure... until I gave them the address.
"Oh, no sir!" the representative told me. "We need a street address to deliver to. You know, like 123 Main Street."
I tried to tell her that the university is on Hwy 200 and doesn't have a street address per se, and that it's the only university in a small town: it's really not that hard to find. She just wouldn't believe me.
I had to assure her that yes, I've received packages from the US and Canada at the university via FedEx, DHL, regular mail, you name it. Finally she was convinced, so I started to tell her the address again.
Of course the address is in Spanish, but even when I spelled it slowly in English she kept screwing it up. I finally gave up and asked her for a FAX number so that I could FAX her my mailing address.
Geez, I hope I get that new card okay.... |

I've gone through something similar when my credit card expired. However, I've never had problems having it sent to my permanent address (my mother's house) in the States. When it arrives there, she sends it to me via FedEx. Not cheap but at least it's been a secure and fast way to send it. |

I had the exact same problem, very frustrating, but never thought of asking for a fax number because I thought she finally got it. Oh boy, was I wrong. (Do you deal with the TD bank too?) I cannot believe the Mexican postal system actually found that address and got my bank mail to me. Aside from royally screwing up the entire street and fracc. names, she left the Canadian postal code on it! I called back in a month or two and got someone that actually knew Spanish. What a fluke, and where was she when I needed her? |
