wow, I have no idea why people get so worked up about bad schools. There are more in Japan than anywhere else. Rejects from a wide variety of anglophone countries congregate here working for chain-schools before a small percentage manage to open there own little piece of Hell. There are so many examples of which JLS is just one. I've read about Big Apple in Tokyo who's manager wrote several highly abusive emails to a recently bereaved employee because she had to leave suddenly. The New Village in Kobe who refused to pay salaries, was investigated by the labour bureau 4 times for a variety of wrong doings and publically slandered an employee without any substance. There is a school called VoS in Kobe who offered a certain salary at interview then paid a much smaller amount without notice or explanation. Of course any post about bad schools wouldn't be complete without mentioning Nova...but by Christ what a cliche that would be.

So, how do you judge what a good school is? Perhaps you could check which organisations provide teachers to universities - for example ECC provide part-time instructors to unis in my area so they can't be all bad - right?

Try another standard. Many agencies supply teachers to universities, but they don't apply much of a standard nor much training foor their employees. It's one of the reasons university lecturers are aganist allowing the agencies to bring people into the universities.

I actually interviewed with this guy Sekiguchi in Chiba about 5 years back for a high school position. I can assure everyone he is the most arrogant, rude person you could possibly meet. He never tried to rip me off money though but I wouldn't put that past him.

Unfortunately we can't change the characters of ESL employers such as Sekiguchi. But we can carefully note that anyone who privately attacks former employees at the most difficult times of their life as in the case at Big Apple, or publically slanders others as in the case of the New Village are particularly problematical. Clearly the personalities of such 'managers' are flawed to say the least. What words could be used? There's no point calling them 'unprofessional' - conversation schools are rarely run by, or for professional teachers.
BUT
I would express concern that certain contributors to this forum have in the not too recent past implied that such behaviors are acceptable because they happen so often. Private and/or public attacks as undertaken by Big Apple (Tokyo) and New Village (Kobe) are completely out of line, as are the multitude of other definitively criminal acts committed by ESL employers.

The financial/hours of work issues are perhaps less disgraceful as material aspects of life are of lesser importance, but still.

man you are a self rightious fool.
Its not about Sekiguchis character. It is about the fact that he asks people to pay 30.000 yen for a job and you don`t even know if you will get the job because you pay the 30.000 yen before you are introduced to the school. Imagine if you pay the 30.000 yen then go to the school and they dont like the look of you they dont want you and you have paid 30.000 yen. Its a scam. Ask guest of Japan. He has had loads of problems with Sekiguchi and he is a LSJ lover. He is stupid too because \he worked for them for 3 years,

How dare you insinuate that I'm an alcoholic. I have been off the wagon for the past 2 years. Alocolosim is no joking matter I was an alcoholic but then I came to Japan and couldn't afford to drink any more because I was working as a teacher and my company kept deducting money from me for no reason at all than the fact my boss was an evil lying cheating piece of gaijin hating trash.

Are you sure you weren't drinking before paying somebody 30,000 Yen so you could work for them?

You know your companies reputation is toast so you troll internet forums pretending to be a gaijin. Even your user name is one that foreigners would use. Then you con desperate people like I was into working for your company.

Sounds like a good idea, 10 million yen split two ways may appeal to Sekiguchi by the sound of him.

Guest of Japan you say you are the only person in the world to not get scammed by Language Systems Japan on this forum and on another there is another guy saying exactly the same thing. That other guy must have been you. Anyway you wrote a long letter in Japanese and English and I took it too my feirnd. Anyway my friend said that you forgot to take out some names and school names etc in the letter. I worked out who you were by finding the name of the school and paul Camera. I know who you are so you better start telling the truth about you and Sekiguchi.
