| I went to Angagheo (sp) in Michoacan, near Zitacuaro. Even from Zitacuaro it took us several hours to get to the sanctuary where we started walking. If you can do it in two days, it might be better. |

I went a couple of weekends ago to check out the butterflies with my parens while they were still here (both my parents and the butterflies!) We went from DF to Zitacuaro and then on to Angangueo. We left here around 9.30 and were in Angangueo around 130 I think.
We went to Sierra Chincua Santuario as the guy at the local tourist office recommended it over the better known El Rosario. He recommended it as he said that it was more forest and 'natural' and that incline wasn't as steep (and if that's true..I dont' want to see El Rosario!!). The other nice thing that I found out later was that Sierra Chincua had horses (100 pesos each) which we took. If you're a rider...these horses were fabulous as they weren't typical trail horses that had their nose stuck up the butt of the one in front. I was actually able to gallop a little!! However, if you're not a rider..no fears as they are quiet and a guy will lead the horse for you. The horses made the trip easier and faster..which for us doing it all in a day..was great.
When then made the trip back..teh same way. We had great luck as both ways we had very little wait time for catching the bus. We were back home around 9/9.30. So it was about a 12 hour trip in all. It worked out perfectly for us as as we had to get home for Tequila. Also...there's not much in the town so besides staying the night and sleeping..I dont' know what else you would really do!!
If anyone wants more details..just pm me! |
