Having been there, I can answer my own question in the form of a warning to other new teachers considering the same. Don't do it. It's simply an awful school. The owners are of that peculiar breed of Chinese who are of the opinion that since you have the audacity to expect to get paid for your labour, they're obliged to squeeze everything possible out of you.
I'm talking about 10 to 12 hour work days, weekends taken away because they promised so and so at the provincial ministry of something that they'd round up a couple of white monkeys to participate in some dog and pony show.
Worst of all, they have this absolutely ghastly Australian woman running the show as head foreign teacher. She has, quite simply, sold out to her Chinese boss at the expense of the foreign teachers. She cajoles and bullies the foreign teachers to do all kinds of extra, unnecessary, and at times degrading things in order to improve her standing with the aforementioned bosses.
Give this place a huge miss. If you're considering going or have already agreed to, do yourself a favour and pm me so I can at least try to save you from what I guarantee will be a bad experience. |
