I don't know Joe. I think it depends on what your atually getting done. For simple things I htink they are fine. However for more complex things your likely right, in at least a general sense, though I am sure there are some branches that are better then others.

I have to make an observation though, most of the services here in china have a general level of "suckiness" whether it be banking or plumbing. Whatever it might be, the quality is just not up to par with western countries. But hey, we all know that and most of us like it here anyway, I know I do.

Aside from the usual long lines and what seems like tellers going as slowly as they possibly can, the main thing is that other than simple transactions are terribly inefficient. Try buying or selling dollars: 4 or 5 separate forms the teller has to process for what should be one effortless (and fast) transaction.

Hmm, well there are easier routes to get your money transfered into dollars, and which offer you a better exchange rate in most cases also Wink Oh and yeah, they are inefficient for complex things, and the bank I go to you have to take a number, lol.

Ah! the new improved system.
Well at least you don't have the hoards of small locals with sharp elbows pushing their way to the glass with their "simple" queries. Only the countryside people who don't know about the system. At our local CNC payments office there was chaos on the first day of the ticket machines coming into operation, in spite of at least a dozen qi'pau wearing assistants to show people how to pull the ticket from the machine and wait (but not telling them how to wait so most citizens just squatted or sat on the floor).
