The question on the CELTA got me thinking - So what about the DELTA . Does a distinction help? |

Holding a distinction in a TEFL Dip and an A in a TEFL Cert ... would make you a strong presidential candidate in pretty much whichever country you fancied ...

Wow Sheeba that's impressive I've only ever met one person who got a distinction in their DELTA and they went on to teacher training- they were inundated with plenty of job offers but only in Europe....... |

Sheikh. You think that the DELTA is worth that much more with distiction .Out of interest - Would you say a DELTA with a distiction is worth more than a Masters? I want to do a Master's but not so sure about its worth if I already had a DELTA. |

As on some MA courses a Dip only counts as around a 10 - 15% credit, and on many courses counts for diddly squat, I really don't think a distinction will do anything for you ...
If you want a job that requires an MA, a Dip won't be enough ... it doesn't matter how much you write on your CV and covering letter that you've got a distinction, there are many many CV's in the pool with an MA ...
... even at MA level, those awards seem to be treated by most employers like stars on a kids school book ... "Yes very pretty. Next" |

The MSc I did gave no formal distinctions ... they simply provided a transcript of grades ...
For me, timing was lucky ... not that many people wanted to go to the Gulf during yet another conflict ...
Had there been more people in the pool ... I'm not sure that a few gold stars would have been enough ... |

Sheik is spot on.
The better jobs will require a relevant graduate degree. Deltas are "nice" and a "distinction" is very "sweet" - but they just don't get you the best jobs. |
