Almost missed it if I hadn't found my way down to the minuscule barrio chino in DF. Were there any other parties around Mexico?
This year's affair was smaller than last year, though I did get to see some very interesting things. There were a few crazies out...foreigners, mostly. It was a little cold and drafty where I was (really should have put more layers on), but the crowd pressed in together kept things warm through the night. |

We are busy here with Carnaval celebrations (or dodging them). All hotels sold out and thousands of people milling about. Last night was a big night with the Combate Naval fireworks, crowning of the queen, and my personal favorite "la quema del Mal Humor" where a stuffed figure is raised high and burned for all to see. This year's bad humor theme was in honor of the price of tortillas. Not sure who that was they were burning...don't want to guess. Headlines this morning "Queman a la tortilla en Carnaval. Los Mazatlecos Exorcizan el Mal Humor" |
