I've been dealing with Interlang and have read old posts about them. I just wondered if any current teachers working there could tell me what they are like?
Also I have a friend in Istanbul who said he can get me part time hotel/bar work. Am I allowed to do that legally?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

You're certainly not allowed to do it illegally ... How much do they pay for such part-time work ...

In all likelyhood, Interlang are unlikely to get you a work visa and it is likely that you will be working illeagally anyway.

We'll call this assumption FACT until someone from Interlang comes forward and proves otherwise.

Been speaking to Berlitz as well. What are they like with work permits/visas?
Why are schools so against getting visas/permits for teachers?

If you use the search engine provided on this site you questions can be answered.

Berlitz won't get you a work permit.

No teacher in the last year has renewed a contract at Interlang.

I don't know of any course school in Ist. in the last five years that has got a Wor Permit for a teacher.

EF has. They got me my permit when i came to istanbul in autumn 2004, as well as for the rest of the teachers. And this year they got me my residence permit immediately but couldn't renew my work permit because i let it expire for too long when i left last autumn. However, the paperwork has been started to get it (actually this may be easier for me because i have 4 years worth of work permits already on record in Ankara and so apparently the work thing can be added on to my res thing after 6 months or something similar)

Also, isnt British Side doing it for their full time staff?

So which places do get visas/work permits for teachers? Been looking at past posts and most just seem to say who doesn't. Are there are current vacancies at these places that anyone knows about?
Seems like most of the jobs advertised on the interet are best to be avoided and the best way to find one of the better jobs is by being inside Turkey. Is this true?

There's always rumours that it'll change, they'll make it easier, etc.

Is it Friday yet?

Schools do get busted for using pirated books. How long before the gov says "enough" and raids some schools looking for illegal teachers? I figure they don't care.
Are thick envelopes passed under tables to inspectors?
Or should we install quick escape hatches in floors for teachers?
Or are "ejector seat" teacher's chairs a good idea? Inspectors through one door and teachers out the other door...

Paul McMaster was ready to give his lessons and had a quick escape plan in place, should government inspectors bother to come and check for work permits....
