| The stuff at http://www.ezslang.com/ is a good example of slang that's commonly used, and seems to have cemented itself, as dialogger said. My students enjoy the site but complained that they needed more. |

Should we resist too much slang?
I know it can be amusing and help class energy when things seem to be flagging a bit.
But if it gets in the way of the more formal stuff I would be concerned.
I have a list of about 40 slang/colloquial expressions and students draw them out of hat.
They must use their expression in their prepared dialogue.
This means each student learns one expression and absorbs it into their oral English but the class is exposed to 30-odd others as we work through the dialogues. |
