Hi,

Can anyone give me a brief lowdown on Nanjing. I am considering starting work there next Feb and want to get a realistic impression of the place from people who have worked and lived (or even just visited) the place.

Obviously, a key point is the expense. How does it compare to other parts of China - in particular the east coast big cities?

Thanks very much

J

Okey-doke. It's all about Japanese atrocity museums and cheap rooms at the Nanjing Normal University for 40 bucks a night.

NEXT!!!

Aha ... the "old jaded teacher routine" ... thanks for your input lads but how about "go home now" ... as useful as an out-of-date Lonely Planet ... AND hilarious to boot!

as youve probably heard, Nanjing has been categorized as one of CHina'a 4 "Ovens", meaning its gets hot, hot, hot in the summer time (Winters are, however, somewhat cold, at least for part of it). It is also considered somewhat of a 'college town' by the CHinese as there are many colleges and universities there and so you will find students from all over CHina and beyond pursuing various degrees. The influx of young people along with its relative proximity to the coast contribute to Nanjing's modern aura - you can find literally any western good you could locate in shanghai or beijing, and there are many bars and restaurants that cater to the predilictions of expats and foreign visitors. You should not have much trouble finding a job at either one of the unis or language schools that abound; i imagine pay in the neighborhood of 4500-6000/month, but now im just speculating. hope this is more helpful than some of the previous moronic and unfunny posts....

martink, now listen -

I thought I told you already, martink - if you haven't got anything useful to add then maybe you should go home, martink. I don't know how long you've been doing this TEFL thing, martink, but sometimes you have to call it a day! There's a good boy, martink.

Dan - thanks very much!!!

PS martink - isn't it a great sounding name!

Hi Martink

Thanks for re-revisiting the thread having previously revisited subsequent to your first visit.

Wow, you must eat comedy for breakfast!

As boring as it may have been for others, I've enjoyed our cyber-chat. I'll graciously let you have the last word - you can be rude as you like (and you can post an amusing picture if you want, which you seem to be so keen to do). I won't reply - I promise!

Thanks
