I was just wondering if anyone knows if when the fm3 expires, do I have to leave right away or if I have some time and also is it possible to get a tourist visa after the FM3 expires?
Thank you! |

RE: FM3, you will be technically illegal, but you can renew it late (not too late!) and you will have to pay a fine on top of the renewal charge. I don't know how much but it's not too bad. The tourist visa, I don't know, I hope someone can help. |

One of the other teachers where I work wanted to switch from an FM3 to a tourist visa and the migracion office here in Morelia told her she couldn't do it. She would have to leave the country and come back in on a tourist visa. This might be different for different offices. |

That would be correct. You would have to leave the country and re-enter on a tourist visa to get away with that change of status. It's not like changing from one type of FM3 to another. |
