sometimes you do have to change at Esaka, but not always, yes.
It depends on the train.

| Foreigners in Osaka often have a strange impression of foreigners in Kyoto, why is that? You think we are all running aroung in kimonos going to calligraphy lessons etc. |

From Osaka Airport, you only have two options to get to Shin-Osaka station...
1) a direct bus from outside the north terminal
2) monorail from Itami to Senrichuo. At Senrichuo transfer to the subway, and take the subway from Senrichuo to Shin-Osaka |
