I'm planning to return to Sapporo after some years away and I've been looking at language center websites, etc.

Ten years ago EC in Hokkaido - especially the downtown Sapporo branch - was known as a sweatshop with very strict bosses. Generally everyone who had worked there at all said it was terrible. The smaller eikaiwa schools ( IAY, Trendy House, American Club) were full of refugees from EC.

I wonder have they changed lately?

Budgie: Do you mean ECC? I interviewed with ECC in Sapporo about three and a half years ago, and wasn't impressed. I spent the first 15 minutes trying to convince the interviewer I was an American, because he was "convinced" I had a non-North American accent. I think when the interview was over, it was mutual that I didn't want to work for them, and they didn't want me.

PS: By the way, are you the same "Budgie" who is on MP.net? If so, can you guess who I am?

I have a ton of friends working at the Hakodate branch of EC. The training is like hell, but the job itself is good enough, comparable to other eikaiwa in town (both private and chain). Most people tend to leave for a better job after awhile, though.
