Another plane crash, this time in Jokja. Man I have flown that route a number of times. Burns my buns how corrupt directors of garuda can bleed the company so much that it has to cut costs including (apparently) in maintenence. Darned old planes too.
How do such people sleep at night. especially if they lose a relative in a disaster that they are largely responsible for. Then again in Indonesia it's Alah's will and the victims have gone to paradise.
Well, i can wait a little longer for paradise myself. Is there beer in heaven? Only for christians!!!

So sorry for the families of the victims.

Don't think Jogja crash had anything to do with poor maintenance - more like 'face' or pride of long-time captain who wouldn't admit that he had come in too high and fast and ask for a 'go-around'.

What is it with people who can't bear to admit to a mistake?

Adam air is an entirely different kettle of fish. Adam himself had a lavish birthday party just a few days after the Surabaya prang.

Anyone flown Wings Air, with their flash expensive logo 'Fly Is Cheap'? I flew Yogyakarta - Jakarta with them for under ten quid, and had to enter the rickety old plane via stairs leading down from the tail. Certainly won't be doing that again.

Wings is one of the worst. Best for safety standards still is Garuda (yes I know the pilots are in dispute with the management but maintenance is still reasonable), Air Asia is usually good - but have a shortage of spare parts at present, Sriwijaya also surprisingly well maintained. Mandala not too special, Batavia good on Airbus.

Bottom of the list is Lion/Wings, Adam, and non-jet fleet of Merpati. Source: civil aviation inspector.

According to my wife (who has a lot of contact with such people) actually ,and perhaps surprisingly to some, .... very well indeed.

My wife and I flew from Denpasar to Jakarta on an Airbus300 operated by Sempati. This was about 8 years ago. I remember noticing the lack of maintenance on the interior of the aircraft and hoping they paid more attention to the engines etc.

Two weeks later, back in Australia, we read that a Sempati A300 had crashed killing 28 people. We wondered if that was the aircraft we flew in and were grateful our time was not up then.
