I think everyone is trying to tell you not to worry too much, because your goals WILL change. It's good to see you trying to plan your life out, but if you stay here until retirement we can all guarantee you that you will not be teaching. You'll own a school or have branched out into other things, but you will not be doing what you do now.

I started at Hess at the grand old age of 36 and left 5 years later (of my own accord!)
If you are young at heart, and have the respect of your students, I think Hess would always re-sign you.

If this isn't using this website, and board, in order to enhance its advertising and boost it's recruiting rate, then I don't know what is.
This individual has been posting the benefits of HESS left and right, always referring to it in the third person, making me wonder who he or she is.
There's ALOT that's yet 'unsaid' about HESS, which I'd like to say is posted in many of my previous posts.
You want to stick around for five years with a payrate you could get in one yr elsewhere, be my guest. Not to mention the work load, something they're apt to brush aside, and the abuse of power thereby.
Those in the upper echelons had been scrounged from this dirt and ground to their blots of better-than thou existences somewhere over in MinQuan Manhatten main headquarters.
They'd better beware, is all I can say. I don't like these people at HESS one iota, just for this fact; THEY AREN'T WHO THEY APPEAR TO BE! They only have the money and resources to advertise everywhere. |

"atiff" identified himself/herself as a HESSian many months ago...we all know him/her as a member of HESS' training staff.
Your post is almost paranoic and makes me laugh as I eat my tasty dinner. Soy Chicken with rice anyone?   Taiwan beer is included.

Your post doesn't make sense. YOU JUST CONFIRMED IT. . .SAYING I'M ALMOST PARANOIC. . .?
Therefore, you laugh, making it almost laughable you'd try to pretend nothing's afoot, to an extent, indicating there's a sort of 'protectionism' included in some of these posters from HESS, and that bordering on a sense of HESS hierarchicalism, which, by the way, is why I dispute you and will.
And Taiwan beer and soy chicken? What, is your stomach a garbage disposal? |

So let me understand this.
You should be allowed to post about your short experiences with HESS, but anyone who works there now or has anything positive to say about their experiences there should not be allowed to post?
Andrew has identified who he is and in my opinion he is not here recruiting but merely giving the schools view of things. This is healthy for ensuring a balance here and I think that we should encourage it. If your complaints about that company are legitimate then you should have no problem getting your points across without suggesting censorship.

I didn't get the impression that anyone at Hess was trying to convince you to stay. Perhaps your departure from that company has been in the best interests of everyone concerned  |

Easy to find out who atiff is - look at his signature!! Andrew has also made is very clear on numerous occasions that he works in Hess's HR department. Before you start another of your "you said something that isn't terribly negative about Hess, I must start shouting immediately" posts, maybe try reading the post you're rebuking! Oh, but I forgot, in your rush to badmouth Hess or the poster, you don't do that!
Personally, I'm glad that there is a bit of balance to unreasonably negative posts such as your own. Hess may not have been for you, but that doesn't mean that no one else will ever work there again. People who aren't here in Taiwan to make their own judgements deserve this balance. |

| There is definite age discrimination in Taiwan. Many of the ads for teachers want someone that is under 33. The older you get, the less the school wants you. You might find it easier teaching adults, they don't seem to care about age so much, but rarely is that work full time. I'm 36 now, and I've come to realize that I probably have about 4 more years left, then it's back to the US for me. |
