That sounds like a good deal. Is it restricted to JR?
I will finish my teaching contract on March 31st, but won't fly back (to the US) until April 10th, and would love to be able to see a little more of Japan, one last time. I'll have to check into it.
Thanks,craven.

Hey again

Good luck with the ticket...again, it takes time, but it's super cheap and a really good way to get around, particularly if you are in Kansai with all the shin kaisoku trains running around! I used it to get to Hiroshima a couple of years back, and it was great.
Here's a link:

The tickets can be purchased at any train station ticket office.

My mom just bought two in her name and validated them at two different stations. There was no problem. It is way cheaper also it is refundable if it doesn't work for you. i checked this before hand to make sure.

This is actually something I might want to try. Were you the one who used the other JR Rail Pass your Mom had exchanged?

Also, 2 questions:
-does the actul JR Rail Pass have your name on it (the person who exchanges it)?

-do the workers check your passport when you board the train (i.e. shinkansen)?

They never checked for us my mom showed her passport and validated one at Shinjuku and did the same to the other at Shibuya. they never ask to see the name on it or your passport.
