I am going to start in the MMC in May. From previous time in Japan, I realize the importance of being close to downtown to avoid early closing trains and taxis.

Which apartments MMC employees use are near the night areas downtown and close to the MMC, that is within 6 or seven miles (walking distance or cab distance)? Thanks a lot. I hope to see you in Osaka!

hmmm a bit unclear about exactly what you want here.

There are many areas close to namba that Nova use to house there staff. They also use areas that are maybe 6km from Namba.

If you want more please be more specific.

My first job here was with Nova and I was in a Nova apartment at the start. They put people from the MMC and normal teachers together in places, there aren't any specific places for MMC employees. I had one man from the MMC stay at my Nova apartment for a bit. The place was near to Juso, just north of the centre, so not that close to Namba.

Three of the largest concentrations of NOVA teachers in Osaka can be found in Kita Tatsumi, Imazato, and Sakuragawa. Sakuragawa is the closest of the three to Namba (one station to the west).

NOVA provides a binder containing information about all of its available properties, including single rooms. You are able to look through this binder and put in for an apartment change, if you wish. However, I think it's more common for teachers to simply stay in their original NOVA apartment for a short time before moving out and finding an apartment on their own.

Oh, and you are NOT going to get a NOVA apartment in Shinsaibashi or Kitashinchi (Umeda). To my knowledge, they don't exist. And even private apartments there are going to cost A LOT of money. Basically, I'd recommend living anywhere on or inside the JR Loop Line if you want to be close to downtown (within 30 minutes by bike). Kita Tatsumi, Suminoe Koen, Juso, and Kadoma Minami are a little far out, so it might cost 2000-3000 yen to get home by taxi after a night in Namba.

If you live in Sakuragawa, the train takes longer than walking. Not that you can get reimbursed for the train (too close).

A lot of people live by Shin Osaka and a lot live down towards the end of the Yotsubashi line, in addition to Imazato and Kita Tatsumi. There are also some random apartments here and there
