Hi all,

going to move to Turkey soon(Ankara) and was wondering what the situation is with dating the local ladies.

I've lived abroad in a few countries but this will be my first time staying in a muslim country. I know Turkey is officially a secular country, and people are alot more westernised than most other muslim countries, but will I get into trouble dating the local women? I'm guessing its probably a mixed bag, some women/parents more open-minded and liberal than others. Is it easy to get into trouble with fathers/brothers/uncles if you're a foreigner(a Brit in my case)?

If anybody has any interesting experiences/opinions, please pm me.

Thanks all,

BB

There's plenty of open minded people in Turkey. You'll be fine.

In any of the big cities there shouldn't be many problems. Places with a smaller population, and especially in the East, it's advisable to be VERY careful. You just have to feel it out wherever you are.

Thanks all.

By the way, if anybody in Ankara likes a cold Efes or Raki of an evening(mmm...I wonder?), get in touch if you like. Pm me. I'll be there in exactly one month from today.

Cheers.

I've just got back from Ankara. I stumbled across this pasaj which led to th what would normally be a shopping centre. Except every place is a bar. It's in Kizilay opposite the Princess hotel. Is is the entertainment centre in Ankara or is it a dodgy rip off place. I was there at lunch time so obviously it was shut. I wandered in there by mistake looking for the door of Burger King. I don't know how I manage it but I always manage to find watering holes without much difficulty.

I ended up there a few years ago. It felt like a very strange place to find oneself--- like a concrete cite/complex entirely devoted to bars. I was there with a turkish woman I met in the metro, my horny upstairs neighbour in Kayseri, and the man that woman was convinced would be my next boyfriend. He was a terrible dancer and couldn't handle more than one beer. 'Twas not meant to be.

It's in the genes mate, a bit like me ending up at the end of the night with everybody's lighters in my pocket.

Yaramaz -
I have the perfect man for you. He's still a terrible dancer, but he can handle two beers. He's a catch.
