I always compared the 'excess' attention from the men in Cairo to walking past a large construction site in the average US city. It is the same mentality of a group of men/boys mostly showing off to each other.

DMB, as a general rule, I ONLY wear a hat in Seattle after fornication. It just makes good sense.

It's true-the lighter the eyes, the more attention w/ the veil. A convert friend of mine wore the niqab in the UAE for years, but couldn't stand the attention she got, and it was usually disrespectful, as if some of the men didn't regard her w/ the same respect they would for a woman from their own country wearing the same item.

It depends on what you mean by looks different?
I think if a woman in the West is wearing a tight jeans, or a semi-transparent, half skirt, there is a possibility that she will be harassed and may be raped! Yes, raped and this what happened to an Italian Woman who got raped?
The judge acquitted her perpetrator on the grounds that her jeans were too tight. Of course, they couldnt have been rape because she had to have assisted him. No man could take off such tight jeans on his own, said the judge http://www.theotherindia.org/gender/nabars-caste-as-woman.html

In the West, a woman has the right to wear jeans or a skirt without being labelled as loose or immoral. A woman can date or sleep with someone without the loss of her family honor.?

You think this do you? Well, I KNOW that female expats employed as maids and the like from countries such as Indonesia are harassed and raped daily in the UAE and other Gulf countries, sometimes by their sponsors. Forget considerations such as 'tight clothing'- the only criteria is that one be poor and female (and not necessarily young- anything will do).

Come on Bje, raped daily in UAE??? This is some exaggeration in your estimation!
Before you finish reading this, another two woman will be raped in USA and another one in UK!
Recent statistics show that rape is prevalent in America, a woman is raped every 2 minutes, according to the U.S. Department of Justice http://www.speakout.org.za/events/stats/stats_Usa.html

In USA, teens 16 to 19 were three and one-half times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape or sexual assault (National Crime Victimization Survey. Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Department of Justice).

All I can say is it makes my heart cringe when I hear a woman in US, UK, or UAE is raped, regardless of her ethnicity, colour, religion, etc.

Read the Kuwaiti and UAE English language dailies and draw your own conclusions. Sorry, I forgot that in the decadent West they do a lot of raping, whereas in the Arab world things are more moral, and thus rape is not so common.

yeah right... what we have here are two things:

in the West, rapes are reported... the "slaves" know better than to say anything in the Gulf. And the local women are still considered the guilty party, so reporting it is the same as cutting your own throat.

population wise, it is most likely near equal... unfortunately men are the same no matter what god they purport to pray to..,

VS

Fortunately, women are not the same, because the god they purport to pray is not the same Laughing

Gulf news reportage of the frequency of rape visited on the slave-labour force increasingly seems to acknowledge the above.

Diverting from the issue with a silly twist of words does not reflect well on you, 007. It merely suggests a problem with women in general, which many guys don't share.
