But how many are from any other group besides the tentmakers, and plugintoyours.com? and how many will be next year? And for the forseeable future?
my reply was to set the record straight, since you attacked me. Not the validity of my claims vs the tentmakers. And since you are the 4th person to do so in the last 4 weeks, i felt the need to reply.
I have never had a problem with you.
and I was floored that you attacked me. If you disagree with me, simple. Say it. If I am wrong, I'd be very happy to have the record set straight. Except NO ONE there seems willing to set the record straight. There are lots of evasions, lies and out right slander against me. You called me a blow hard (I believe it was), someone named JOEL (whom I have never met, nor had interactions with)from purpose use the term (previously fired will, and instigating trouble. How would he know anythign about this unless people have been badmouthing me), I have David M putting my name on stuff I didn't write in wikipedia.org. I have heard of several teachers questioning the validity and love of my marriage, and i have heard from about 6 students that certain teachers there are bad mouthing my name.
I'm greatly disappointed that this is happening, and as such I have responded rather roughly. But instead of answering my questions and claims, I get a short "I can see you are over it." reply. Nice. Really designed to open communication.
Who is doing the recruiting? Where are these recruits coming from? What are they told before they get there? How are they behaving while they are there? Are they knowingly breaking chinese law, and misusing their positions as teachers? (I can cite at least a dozen examples from last year, but I tried to let it be. People kept bringing me into it. I have tried to do the same thing since I left, and yet again, people keep saying things about me.)
Those were my problems at the end of last year, and they still bother me. I happen to care a great deal about the students who are there, and I seriously question the abilities of "paid missionaries" who want to use teaching to "get their foot in the door." (those are quotes from plugintoyours.com btw).
Lee do you dispute any of my claims about the tentmakers being in charge of SIAS recruitment? Or about all of the new teachers coming from either the tentmakers, lee university, or UC davis? (and don't try to point to the teachers hired by FHSU, they don't count because someone other than plugintoyours.com hired them.)

found this gem on this site....

How you have seen God work: I can't imagine a better place to be right now than China. As an American we have an instant audience with the Chinese. They love and respect our culture and are so eager to hear about what we love and are passionate about. I will never forget the night that one of my students came to my room and recounted what happened to him just the week before. He said, "I was reading a Bible in my room and God fell on me." He went on to say that the hole in his life that had been void for so long in his life had been filled that night by the presence of God. "I went to school the next day and could feel God all around me" he said. What an amazing story to hear! |
it was a falling crucifix attached with a sh*ttie Chinese nail that hit him in the head.... |

Hi, is the typo, or was this perhaps not written by a native speaker?
It should read: "As Americans, we..."
In terms of contents, I would say that China certainly does not need any sort of Christian fundamentalism from the USA or wherever. |

Just a note that FHSU has had a problem with sending 'missionaries' as well. They got called on it and seem to be a lot less blatant about it now. This wasn't at SIAS, but another one of FHSU's partner schools. Ft Hayes is run by the state of Kansas, so it's illegal for them to hire based on religion, in Kansas and in China.
They were funny about it too, they put a Muslim teacher in the program( after they got called on hiring by religion) , then when they brought him to china they took him out and gave him pork for dinner.
The folks they sent were so obnoxious about religion that some Chinese christians never revealed their religion to the Ft Hayes folks.
It wouldn't have been bad working with many of them except that they were so obviously trying to push out anyone who wasn't affiliated with their denomination. |

Nothing wrong with being exclusionary, but religion shouldn't enter a secular work place. You work for a Christian school, you can expect to deal with the bs. If you work at a secular school, the Christian bs shouldn't enter the workplace at all.
FHSU is not a bad university, it's just the program that is involved. |

The program's not bad either. It doesn't have some of the other serious problems sometimes associated with private programs. ie, teachers almost always get paid on time.
Kids going thru it seem to have better use of English than most students. I know several graduates who got jobs basically because they could speak and understand idiomatic English.
It's still annoying to work in a place where you'll be targeted because of religion. |

Some of my friends are surprised that I go to a Christian-affiliated grad school but the fact of the matter is that they never mention religion. They have a cross on the wall in each classroom but that's it. They are the most economical grad school in my area and that's the only reason that I go there.
I'm an agnostic but I'll soon have a masters from "Saint Mary's University." |

I would guess the moral of these stories is that working and going are "christian of a different color"..I also went to a Christian collage..Sanford in Alabama..Methodist school...and never was religion mentioned except in "Bible" class..or religious classes..but I remember that it wasn't so easy for all the teachers to get along with the hierarchy..... |
