Hey guys...I think that something was posted about this school on this site but I can't find it.
They are offering me a job for the term beginning in June but I can't find anything on google or yahoo about them. Decent salary and accommodation but they bill themselves as a primary-to-high school international school and I don't know if that is true or not or whether they are just a language mill. They send their students abroad at the end of high school and participate in an Australian-type entrance program.
Please, any and all comments re this Institute would be appreciated because I seem to recall having read some not-so-nice-things about them here but I could be wrong.
Thanks.

they are located by several schools (one an Australian school) not to far out of Beijing.....by a nice lake..(full of mosquitoes in the summer).....around 20 min from Lido...have you spoken to a Charles Pay or something use to do the hiring...they have had some trouble there in the past with teachers unhappy ..but as to what extent or for what reason I am not sure...as for an international school..loosely consider that as truth...
if you need more...
contact me by PM.... |

I am surprised they have not figured out how to have an English version and a Chinese version of a website by now. |

TW,
Please pay attention -- it's NOT Beijing Institute of Technology but the NATIONAL Institute of Technology and they are TWO different entities, OK?
So the website you sent is completely wrong.

I taught here for two years. Check this website: www.nitbj.com. The English version of the website is not updated often. This is an International School. They have a primary/middle school of mostly Korean students. This is run as a school from Western Australia. They also have the language mill in which they prepare high school students for a number of colleges/universities in Australia. They also have a school to prepare university-age students for the IELTS exam. The idea is for these students to pass the exam with a sufficient score to allow them to transfer to Australian universities.
The president and principal are Chinese-born Australian citizens. As in most private language schools, making money is the operating principle. Education comes second. Any problems with students are the teachers' fault. The school will not remove a student and lose his/her tuition payments. The classrooms are decent. The school provides the teaching materials.
The campus is nice. The campus has a park-like feel. The food in the canteen is edible, but nothing special. The FT apartments are adequate, looking over the football (soccer) field. The apartments do have full kitchens. NIT is in a village on the northeast edge of Chaoyang District. The local markets are okay. A ten minute taxi ride or twenty minute bus ride plus a ten minute walk takes you to the Guanzhuang subway stop.
The pay is good. I was always paid ontime. Sometimes they want you to arrive on a tourist visa which they will then change to an F-visa. They don't seem too keen when you request a Z-visa.
To receive your full salary, they expect you to be in the classroom or in the office for forty hours each week. If you don't fulfill this, your pay is 1000 rmb/month less. To qualify for your Residence Permit, you have to live on campus.
Overall, I enjoyed working here. The Administration is typical, but the Chinese staff is very helpful. A few of my Chinese colleagues remained friends after I left. After reading comments about many schools in China, I think you can do a lot worse than NIT, and not too much better. If you bring too many western expectations, I would give this a 5/10 rating. If you are tolerant and flexible, 7/10. |
