The school I really had a problem with was EF Gajah Mada. |
i've heard numerous entertaining stories about this ef. however, most of them centered around lance and his never ending antics. i wish he was still here. he was a terrible teacher and an even worse liar, but without a doubt the most entertaining person i have ever met... i could sit and listen to that guys ridiculous and completely made-up stories forever.........i miss you lance.....well, i miss your stories, that is |

Thanks Michael, also could you tell us who owns this particular school because in the case of EF schools there may be a group run by the same owner ala Swara. If one school is badly run by a particular snake oil salesman, chances are the other half a dozen would be too. |

Oh dear! A colleague of mine just showed me the application form - THIRTEEN pages of it - for Bina Bangsa school. They require 5 referees, of which one must be a church minister, and ask some incredibly intrusive and personal questions. All that hassle for a very average NatPlus employer. |

The expectations of some people really amaze me. If you are working for a sub-standard school/language course and you are unhappy LEAVE. If indeed you can't leave because you are not suitably qualified to work for a better school then quit complaining.

Just FYI, RICS is totally different from the RICS you or we knew before. You will be suprised with the modern administration the school has. If any one of you have friends currently working with RICS, go ask them. RICS is the only school with the TRANSPARENT pay structure for teachers in Jakarta.
If u had a bad experience with RICS before, sorry for you. But the RICS now... hmmmmmm...... better!!!!
And RICS will pay if you can REALLY teach, not just TALK!
Ciao! |
Why so modest, Wildgoose? You ARE the "modern administration", well the Vice Principal, at least.
But, I'm curious what you mean by "RICS is the only school with the TRANSPARENT pay structure for teachers in Jakarta."? BIS publishes theirs on their website, does RICS?
IF not, why don't you tell us here?

I dared to expose their shonky practices, cos maybe naively I thought this is the way in the west things usually improve. And god knows, companies here often need a shakeup. However now I know this is the main reason people in Indonesia put up with s**t from anyone and don't air their grievances publicly. But now, to protect my family I will use an anonymous pen name to air what I consider real concerns and life expericences to the readers of this forum.[/quote]
This is pretty real stuff. I was threatened with having snakes put in my garden, getting deported and bosses who say that my being deported is not as bad as the school's reputation.
I dare say that jealousy and backstabbing is much worse than in the real corporate world. This is worse if the principal(s), VPs themselves are the ones doing it. And the culture flows down. Some of us try to shut ourselves off but you find that if the culture is bad, there's no way you can do any work. You want to do your best for the kids management is only interested in the money and your supervisors are only interested in their own jobs. I used to be really outspoken about things that I felt should be changed... now I find it's safer to just say nothing and wait until it's time to get out. |

yes, i totally agree... and welcome to the happy life. Best attitude to have. Why worry or get upset and stressed about things that you can do nothing about.
